My French friends

My French friends

My French friends were fishing on the upper Tweed in late October and I received a kind invitation to go and join them for their last three days. Met my friends there, and couldn’t resist the offer of a rod already rigged up and, apart from a fly, ready to go! The rod was a HOH Overseas Spey 13’3” and a six piece, to easily fit in a case of my traveling friends. Any doubts I had about the rod being on the light side to cover all the water I wanted to were soon dispelled. I was very impressed with the ease it could cast a nice long line and how comfortable it was to fish with. There was quite a strong wind blowing upstream and the rod could punch out good tight loops and cut through it with relative ease. In these conditions I usually find it fairly hard work casting a double handed Spey rod all day,  but because this rod is so light it makes a day’s fishing so much easier. The rod was matched up to a Rio Scandi 460gr Intermediate tip line and a 1/2” copper tube on the end. It says it all when I didn’t hesitate to take up the offer of using it for the next two days!
